หลังจากที่ทีมงาน i3 ได้พูดเกริ่นอยู่ในส่วนของ Editor's Talk มานานกว่าครึ่งเดือน มาวันนี้ซีพียูตัวใหม่จาก Intel ในชื่อรหัส Core i5 750 และ Core i7 870 ก็พร้อมคลอดความแรงสู่สายตาชาวโลกกันแล้ว ซึ่งแน่นอนว่าในวันนี้ทีมงาน i3 จะขอเป็นผู้ทดสอบความแรงซีพียูทั้ง 2 รุ่นให้ท่านผู้ชมได้รับรู้ความแรงระดับ Extreme กัน แต่ทั้งนี้ก่อนไปรับชมประสิทธิภาพแบบเต็มๆ เรามาปูพื้นความรู้เกี่ยวกับเจ้า Intel P55 กันก่อนครับ ถ้าพร้อมแล้วไปกันเลย

Intel P55 จุดกำเนิด Core i5 & i7 New Platform (LGA 1156)

Intel P55 คือ Chipset ตัวใหม่จากฝั่ง Intel โดย Chipset ตัวนี้ออกมาเพื่อรองรับกับซีพียู Core i3, i5 และ i7 ตัวใหม่ที่ใช้รหัส Lynnfield (Socket 1156) อีกทั้งคุณสมบัติใน Chipset P55 จะรองรับหน่วยความจำเพียง Dual-Channel DDR3 เท่านั้น ไม่เหมือนกับใน Chipset X58 ที่จำเป็นต้องใช้เป็นแบบ Tri- Channel
DDR3 ซึ่งมีราคาค่อนข้างแพงมากในบ้านเรา สุดท้ายคุณสมบัติอื่นๆ ที่น่าสนใจของ Chipset ตัวนี้คือ การรับระบบ SLi/CrossFireX แต่จะสามารถทำได้แค่ 2-Ways เท่านั้น โดยเมื่ออยู่ในระบบ SLi หรือ CrossFireX ความเร็วจะถูกหั่นลงครึ่งหนึ่ง (ขึ้นอยู่กับยี่ห้อของเมนบอร์ดด้วย) และระบบ Intel Turbo Boost Technology ที่จะมีมาให้ตั้งแต่ Core i7 - Core i5 โดยระบบนี้จะเป็นระบบโอเวอร์คล๊อกความเร็วของซีพียูให้เองโดยอัตโนมัติ เช่นเมื่อท่านซื้อซีพียูมาที่ความเร็ว 2.66 GHz เมื่อใช้งานโดยเปิดฟังค์ชั่น Intel Turbo Boost แล้วความเร็วของซีพียูอาจเพิ่มถึง 3.2 GHz ได้โดยที่ท่านผู้ใช้ไม่จำเป็นต้องไปยุ่งกับค่าไฟหรือ FSB แต่ประการใด ซึ่งเหมาะอย่างยิ่งสำหรับเหล่าเกมเมอร์ที่ต้องการ GHz ซีพียูสูงๆ

เพราะฉะนั้นสำหรับบทสรุปของ Intel P55 ก็คือเป็น Chipset ที่ลดประสิทธิภาพของ Intel X58 ลงมา แต่ยังคงคุณสมบัติของตัว X58 ไว้อย่างเต็มความสามารถเพื่อให้ผู้ใช้งานที่ต้องการใช้ซีพียู Core i7 สามารถเลือกใช้ได้ในราคาที่ไม่แพงเท่ากับชุด Intel X58 อีกทั้งจากการคาดการณ์ของกระผมๆ ว่าทาง Intel ตั้งใจจะให้ชุด Intel P55 เป็น Platform ตัวใหม่ที่จะมาแทนที่สถาปัตยกรรม Intel P45 (Core 2 Duo และ Core 2 Quad) ก็เป็นได้ (ส่วน X58 ก็น่าจะมาแทนที่ X48)

ข้อแตกต่างระหว่าง Intel Core i5, Core i7 และ Core i3

Intel Core i5 ไม่มี Intel Hyper-Threading Technology ที่ใช้ในการจำลองคอร์เสมือนเหมือนดั่งกับ Intel Core i7 ส่วน Core i3 นอกจากจะไม่มี Intel Hyper-Threading Technology แล้ว Core i3 ยังไม่มีระบบ Intel Turbo Boost Technology ด้วย
